Reflections on the search or the theory of probability in action.
Previously, I naively thought that it is only necessary to pick up a metal detector and artifacts will get out of the earth themselves :) The presence of the metal detector does not imply the presence of finds, the more interesting. No, you certainly will not leave empty-handed. Be sure to find ... a rusty jar, or an old spoon, or a lid from a bottle of beer. But these are not the finds from which the heart starts to beat louder and you feel alive.
The search for artifacts is, first of all, hard work and labor. But interesting. I live in fertile places. The nature is amazing, the landscape is heterogeneous, forests, fields ... Beauty for body and soul. But our regions are also rich in artifacts. Life has always boiled here. From the Scythian-Sarmatians, the Vikings-settlers, to World War IIy 20th century.
What attracts me to this? Element of surprise. You never know beforehand what you will find. It will be an ordinary nail or a silver coin, a Bomb from World War II or an ancient lunnitsa worn by the Vikings.
Surprise and luck, probability theory in action.
